Records
Management and Archive Training Days
February 2004 saw the launch of the first of our
Records Management & Archive Training Days.
Held at the Malta Institute of Management building
in Sliema over two days, the training proved to be
very successful, with attendees from a wide range
of business including, Banking, Commerce, Insurance & Administration,
Financial Institutions, Government Departments, Health
Care Providers, Parastatal Companies and other locally
based industries.
Day One featured the “The Basic Archive Skills
Training Day”, an introductory presentation
aimed at people working with Archives and Records
who had no formal record-keeping qualifications.
The day included core sessions focusing on the main
areas of Archiving and Records Management - such
areas being, Preservation of Records, Description,
Reference Services and Records and Automation Solutions.
Day Two featured the “Managing Paper & Digital
Records” presentation. The day invited attendees
who had a basic understanding in the terminology,
principles and elements of Records Management, but
who wished to take a more in-depth look at the handling
of the principles and practice of Records Management
including the management of digital records.
The morning focused on Records Management generally
and the afternoon was an overview of the challenges
to managing digital records, offering solutions and
strategies for successful management.
The use of case studies and workshops throughout
both days helped to deepen the attendees’ knowledge
and understanding of Records Management and helped
to give them a thorough grounding in the challenges
and techniques of managing records.
Both days were delivered in conjunction with Ms Janet
Foster and Ms Margaret Crockett from the UK based
Company The Archive Skills Consultancy.
November 2004 saw the successful delivery of our
third training day “An Introduction to Records
Management – Fact – Fiction – Solutions” .
Albeit presented a little later in the year than
originally intended, DMI put together a combination
of February’s two day training course, mixed
with “previous attendee feedback”. The
training day was delivered mid November at the Malta
Enterprise building in San Gwann and was very well
attended.
